Mobile shelving technology upgrades (2022)

From January through June 2022, parts of the Library's stack collections on Levels 3 and 4 were temporarily closed to patrons while we embarked on important upgrades to our collection spaces.

The mobile shelving technology, which enables high-density storage of our core print collections, received a major upgrade to ensure consistent performance. The system also incorporates several safety measures, including motion sensors, counters, and a stop button to prevent accidents.

We would like to thank our contractor SmartSpace for their conscientious and diligent work throughout the project, the staff at UTM Library who laboured tirelessly to prepare our collections for the upgrade, and to our campus partners from Procurement, Facilities, and Campus Safety for their invaluable help ensuring this project was completed safely with minimal impact to our users.
