Photographing & Video-Recording Policy

This policy is designed to ensure each student, faculty, and staff member using the Library is free from disruption and that each person’s right to privacy is protected.

Photographing and video-recording are not permitted in the U of T Mississauga Library without prior authorization through the Office of the Chief Librarian. No student, faculty, staff, or visitor may be photographed or video-recorded in the Library at any time by any person without her/his explicit prior written consent.

Procedure

Requests to record video or take photographs in the Library may be made in writing to the Library Administration prior to the activity taking place and must include the reason for the request, as well as the dates and times requested for taking photographs or video (see the Photographing & Video-recording Request Form). All applicants implicitly agree to all the terms of the Library Code of Conduct.

Violation of the Photographing & Video-Recording Policy

Adherence to the Photographing & Video-Recording Policy in the Library is a condition of entry to the Library. By signing and submitting the request form you are agreeing to the conditions as specified. Persons who violate the Photographing & Video-Recording Policy in the Library will be asked to leave the Library and will not be permitted to take pictures or shoot video. Violations may incur escalating sanctions, including asked to leave the Library, being banned from the Library for a period of time, and/or being charged by Campus Police under the Ontario Trespass to Property Act, RSO 1990, cT21.

Solicitation Policy

The purpose of this policy is to allow people to use library services without interference by individuals or groups engaged in unauthorized activities.

Solicitation is not permitted in the University of Toronto Mississauga Library.  Solicitation includes, but is not limited to, selling goods or services, distribution of promotional flyers or other materials, direct person-to-person solicitation, or asking for donations or contributions.  Any similar activity in the Link area just outside the Library main entrance, which creates noise in the Library on Levels 2 and 3 or is otherwise disruptive, is also not permitted.

Violation of the Solicitation Policy

Adherence to the Solicitation Policy is a condition of entry to the Library.  Library staff monitors each floor of the Library regularly.  Persons who violate the Solicitation Policy will be asked to leave the Library.  If requested, individuals are required to present to Library staff and/or Campus Police valid University of Toronto identification in order to track repeat policy infractions.  Repeat violations may incur escalating sanctions, starting with being asked to leave the Library, being banned from the Library for a period of time, and/or being charged by Campus Police under the Ontario Trespass to Property Act, RSO 1990, cT21.
