More spaces & in-person services available Sept 7

Reopening our spaces & in-person services starting Sept 7.

Starting September 7, the UTM Library will be reopening many of its spaces and services. We look forward to welcoming our campus community as the Fall term begins!

Please see below for the latest details on how we will provide robust teaching, learning, and research support in the coming months while keeping health and safety as our highest priority. For the latest information, always check our homepage and service and operations updates.

Health and safety

In accordance with the U of T policy and guideline, masks are mandatory at all times inside University spaces, including the Library. Physical distancing is also required, with signage, traffic flow controls, and other measures in place to reduce congestion and protect our community.

We are following the University's 12-step plan for a safe return to campus and will continue to follow and implement the latest public health recommendations.

We will extend the hours for both our spaces and services in the Fall.

Building hours:

  • Mon–Fri: 8 am–10 pm
  • Sat–Sun: 10 am–8 pm

Service hours:

  • Mon–Fri: 8 am–7 pm
  • Sat–Sun: 10 am–5 pm

Library spaces & technology

The main floor and levels 3–4 will be open to the community, with restrictions in place to protect our community. In addition to reduced capacity limits throughout the Library, the first floor and the group study rooms will not be available.

  • Patrons will no longer need to book workstations in advance: access will be granted on a first-come, first-served basis.
  • Library spaces are for individual study only; please respect the signage and decals in place and follow physical distancing.
  • The tech lending program will provide limited borrowing of laptops and peripherals.

While we look forward to seeing you in the Library, please be mindful of space limitations and consider the many other great spots to study! The UTM Study Space website contains information on dozens of individual and group study spaces across our beautiful campus.

Using our services

Library staff will provide in-person support at the Information and Loans Desk to process borrowing, and at the Reference and Research Desk to provide in-person assistance. Many other Library services, including reference help via live chat and Zoom, will continue to be available remotely.

Accessing our collections

With access to the third and fourth floors restored, Library users can once again browse and retrieve items from the stacks themselves. However, additional requesting options will be available through LibrarySearch to place holds on available items; the intercampus delivery and interlibrary loan services are also available to access materials from other libraries. Users will receive an email when their materials are ready and have 7 days to pick them up.

As we are reopening access to the stacks, the HathiTrust Emergency Temporary Access Service (ETAS) will no longer be available.

The Syllabus Service will continue providing students and their instructors with simple access to Library materials on course reading lists.
