Each Blackboard course comes with a default Course Menu. The default is generic, and won't fit your course perfectly. To help students find your content, edit the course menu to reflect the structure of your course and the language you use in class.
You can customize a course menu by:
- Selecting from a list of pre-defined course structures;
- Re-naming existing course menu items; and
- Adding new Content Areas and Tool Links.
Add a New Content Area or Tool Link
- Hover your mouse over the + button and select an action;
- To add a content area click Content Area;
- To add a tool link click Tool Link;
- Provide a Name for your new Content Area, Tool Link, etc., and ensure that you make this item available to users by checking the box beside Available to Users;
- Click Submit;
- Your new item will appear at the bottom of the Course Menu. You can drag and drop it to a new location to organize your course content.
Edit an Existing Link
- Hover your mouse over the link you want to edit;
- Click on the round contextual menu button next to the link;
- In the drop-down menu, click Rename Link;
- A text box will appear in the menu, enter a new name for the course menu link;
- Click the checkmark button to save your change.
Select a Course Theme and Customize the Menu
There are a number of pre-defined course structures available for you to choose from. Course structures are organized thematically, and each contains a mix of content areas and interactive tools. Course structures can be applied and then edited for further customization.
- In the Control Panel click Customization, then select Teaching Style;
- Under Select Course Theme you will find a list of visual theme options. Click on a thumbnail to select a theme;
- Under Select Menu Style you can cutomize the look and feel of yoru course menu;
- Click Submit to save your changes.
