Library 101: Introduction to LibrarySearch

The University of Toronto Libraries has introduced a new search system called LibrarySearch. Join us to learn how to discover books, e-books, journal articles, and more for your research, teaching, and learning. Participants will learn how to navigate the new search interface including how to use new features to access full text, to create citations, and to save your searches, and how to use advanced searching features like Boolean operators.

Citation Management
A hands-on session during which participants create an account in at least one citation manager (EndNote Web, RefWorks, Zotero, or Mendeley), and import references from the catalogue and at least one database, then create a basic bibliography.

Learning outcomes: 

  • select the most useful citation manager(s) based on your needs; 
  • create at least one citation manager account; 
  • populate the account with references from the most frequently used information environments; 
  • make a brief bibliography in a relevant style.

Digital Image Basics

This workshop provides basic information about digital images (file formats, file naming, resolution needed for printing versus PPT presentations, organizing image collections, downloading), copyright issues (fair dealing, creative commons, and public domain), citing and referencing images (style guides), search engines specifically for finding images on the web (advanced Google image searching), and some basic resources at the University of Toronto (FADIS, ArtStor).

Bloomberg Basics

This workshop will introduce students to the Bloomberg terminal. Students will learn how to access Bloomberg terminals remotely; create a Bloomberg account; navigate and search the terminal to find company information, including company financials, as well as analyst reports and business news. Students will also learn about how to get certified with Bloomberg Market Concepts.
