Using & Citing #SocialMedia in Research

Twitter, WhatsApp, Instagram: these and other social media platforms make a huge impact on our culture and how we communicate, and many researchers use them to share their work and network with other academics. This makes them great primary and secondary sources! In this workshop, you’ll learn when it’s appropriate to use social media content in your research, hacks to find the best accounts and content for your topic, and how to integrate them into your assignments in different citation styles.

Finding and Using Digital Images

This workshop will introduce the basics of working with digital images:  finding sources, file naming, file types, storage, preservation and long-term sustainability issues, as well as, ethical and  copyright issues. Copyright issues will be addressed concerning academic studies, assignments, public vs. creative common sites, publishing and professional work.

Advanced Searching in Art History, Visual Studies and Cinema

This session teaches students in arts programs how to do advanced searches on specialized areas or escoteric topics they are investigating. The pros and cons of available databases will be reviewed, searching for different publication formats, inter-disciplinary searches and specialized resources available to save you time and find the material you need.

This workshop is designed for students who have completed the FactSet Basics workshop or for students with some experience using FactSet. This workshop will feature some of the advanced functionality in FactSet, including the Excel plug-in and templates.

Looking for research data for your assignments? Don't know what to do when you have some research data? We will cover effective strategies for finding research data and the best ways to save and visualize your data. Data citation tips will also be discussed in the workshop.

The Basics of Journal of Forensic Sciences (JFS) Style Citations

Your professor requires you to cite using the Journal of Forensic Sciences (JFS) Style for the upcoming paper. Do not panic! After this session you will be comfortable locating the guide to the style online, and you will feel confident applying its basics, from in-text citation placement to formatting most common bibliography entries.  

Learning outcomes:  

  • locate the JFS Style guide and our online guides to the style;  
  • practice in-text citation placement;  
  • format a bibliography based on most commonly used reference types;

This workshop is designed for students who have completed the Bloomberg Basics workshop or for students with some experience using Bloomberg. This workshop will feature some of the advanced functionality in Bloomberg, including Bloomberg Intelligence.
