The UTM community is well served by the strong collections available throughout the University of Toronto Library System. The UofT collection, often ranked in the top 4 in North America, covers a wide range of subjects and comes in many different formats, including electronic and print materials.
The UTM Library’s collection development strategy is guided by curriculum, teaching, and research needs of the UTM community.
Working with colleagues throughout the UofT Library System, UTM Library is increasingly shifting towards purchasing new resources in electronic format, whenever possible. This move to an electronic format has been happening to the journal collection for many years but this transition is now starting to occur in certain book collections as well.
Interlibrary Loan/Document Delivery
UTM Library provides access to collections, both at UofT and outside our community through interlibrary loan/document delivery activities. Please contact the Resource Sharing Department if you have any questions at (905)-828-3881.
Short Term Loan/Reserves
The UTM Library supports the curriculum with a strong short term loan/reserves collection. Please contact the Reserves section of the Library (905)828-5236 or your Subject Librarian for additional information.
Donations
UTM Library welcomes donations/gifts that fall within the scope of its collection strategy. The decision to accept the collection is based upon the needs of the current collection, and whether the donation would support the curriculum, teaching and research on this campus. Please take a look at the donations policy for UTM Library.
Showing films in Classrooms
Almost all movies are covered by copyrights which disallow public showings without securing the legal rights to do so.
UofT, through the Library system, has gained the rights for you to show films in classrooms (a public performance) by obtaining public performance licenses that allow a vast majority of films available in Canada to be shown in a classroom setting.
For 2011-12, UT holds licenses with two large distributors, Criterion and Audio Cine Films (ACF). These licenses cover titles from well known studios such as Alliance, New Line, Miramax, United Artists, etc. If you have a particular film in mind and it is listed on the distributors website, it has public performance rights (PPR) and you can show it in your class.
If a film has PPR, you can show a film you own it yourself, the Library owns it or it is available through interlibrary loan. Use the Audio Visual Materials Request Form to request the film you want.
The Library does purchase documentary films with PPR if the Subject Librarian feels that it supports the collection mandates. Please contact your Subject Librarian for information.
