  • Supports interactive learning and student-centered teaching and learning
  • Increases accessibility through the provision of content in different formats
  • Promotes team-oriented, online environment

Interactivity Considerations Inclusivity Considerations
  • Consider situational factors and specific context
  • Year of study (i.e., graduate versus undergraduate)
  • Student enrollment
  • Curricular goals / outcomes for the course and program
  • Prior knowledge, experiences, skills and attitudes of the instructor and the students
  • Provide opportunities to test equipment and for students to practice presenting if this will be part of an assignment
  • Estimate and get feedback from students regarding time on task
  • Determe when and how feedback will be provided
  • Determine the features that are pertinent to the knowledge skills or abilities that are being measured (construct relevance)

Recommended Hardware for Video Creation or Virtual Office Hours

UTM Recommendation for Meeting Online

Zoom

  • 300 people can join but only 49 active videos can be shown at one time
  • Up to 1000 people viewing only

Zoom is licensed at UTM, and is an option that can be used for synchronous meetings and can be used for meetings with up to 300 students. For larger courses (up to 1000 participants), UTM instructors can request a license through UTM I&ITS ticket, this would usually require a minimum of 72 business hours' notice.

Please note: It is recommended that you use a wired connection if you are a Presenter in Zoom.

It is recommended that you provide students with an opportunity to do a test run to ensure that their equipment is working.  One simple way to test this out would be to hold Virtual Office Hours and meet with your students online.
